5K Chamber Challenge has Surprising Front Runners

The Southeast Volusia Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual 5K Chamber Challenge Run on Thursday, April 4, 2013 and on lookers were astonished to see the 14 year old winner fly across the finish line.

Aidan Tooker finished the race in 17 minutes and 4 seconds with the support of cheering crowds.

Not far behind was the first female to complete the race, 13 year old Alex Lillie.  Alex was on vacation from Michigan with her family when they noticed a flyer for the race and she decided to sign up.  Amazingly, she has never actually raced competitively.

Several businesses had teams in the race, including Serenity Springs Recovery Center, whose owner Jimmy Marshall raced alongside patients of the center.

The 5K was also supported by several sponsors, whose sponsorship along with the runners’ registration fees went towards the Southeast Volusia Building Fund to continue restorations of the 1933 Historic building.
