ACA Gives Residents Bee Tour
Each year the ACA hosts artists in residence for a three week period, four times per year, in order for the artists to work with a mentor and focus on their art.
During each residency, McGinnis tours the artists around the grounds of the ACA after a lunch made by the on-site Chef Tom, created from the center’s own garden. McGinnis described the various wild plants, their uses and importance to the bees’ habitat, and finally stopped by the three hives on site.
Each hive holds between 60,000 and 100,000 bees, and the honey is collected and sold in the ACA gift shop. After the tour, the artists were treated to a honey tasting, experiencing the varieties of flavors based on different plants from which the bees have collected pollen.
