Day in the Bee Yard
This event is free and open to the public.
“The ‘Day in the Bee Yard’ we offered in June was very successful. It introduced a new group of potential backyard bee keepers to the experience of caring for a bee hive, and several new bee club members learned a lot from our hands-on demonstrations,” said Marlin Athearn, President of Bee Keepers of Volusia County. “Since Aug. 17 is National Honey Bee Day, we thought another Bee Yard presentation would be a good way to celebrate honey bees for all they do and their importance in pollinating the plants that make up our food supply.”
The class will include information about honey bee biology and hive-tending equipment, plus a live demonstration of how to inspect a hive and extract its honey. Some bee-keeping veils will be available for participants who want to get up close during the hive demo.
Please dress appropriately for this event with closed-toe shoes, light-colored clothing and no perfume.
