Volusia County Public LibrariesAdults can take their computer skills to the next level with free classes at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library.

 Learn the basics of email, from getting a free address to composing messages and adding pictures and documents.

Advance registration is required and may be made by calling 386-424-2910, ext. 104, or stopping by the reference desk.

The computer lab is open for patron assistance from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays, and 3 to 5 p.m. Thursdays. Patrons can practice computer skills, troubleshoot problems, ask questions and get assistance with job searches, resumes and filling out applications. They may bring their own devices or use the library’s laptops. Registration is not required for the computer lab.

The library is open seven days a week at 1001 S. Dixie Freeway. Hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Along with the Ribbing Cutting, Vision Fitness 24 is also having Member Appreciation Party and Grand Opening on Wednesday, April 23 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  The first 25 people to sign up will receive NO enrollment fees and they will be offered “pre-grand opening” special rates.  This includes two personal training sessions with their Nationally Certified personal trainers.  Outriggers Tiki Bar and Grill will be catering lunch followed by dinner served by Luna Bella Ristorante.

Pontoon Boat Cruise to Historic Seminole Rest @ Canaveral Visitor Center

turtle moundTake a leisurely cruise from the dock behind the Visitor Center to Seminole Rest, where there will be a tour of the historic house.

We’ll see lots of wildlife and enjoy some of the same views as river steamer passengers saw in the 19th century.

Our comfortable pontoon boat, Tortuga del Sol, and our licensed captains and experienced mates are trained to provide you with a memorable and safe tour.

Join us as we depart from the Visitor Center, weather permitting.  RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED and SPACE IS LIMITED.  A cost recovery fee of $20.00 per person is charged. There is a 50% discount for each holder of Senior or Access passes.  Children 15 and under are free.

 

PLEASE NOTE: all programs are subject to cancellation and/or rescheduling due to staff limitations, weather conditions, or other factors. Teens can share their love of Japanese animation during free anime
activities at the Edgewater Public Library.

Scene it: Teens can test their anime knowledge with the library’s version of “Scene It?” trivia games. Participants will be asked to name the video as scenes and characters are shown.

Anime is a style of animation that tells action-packed stories using colorful images and strong characters with enormous eyes. It was developed in Japan and has gained a large following among American teens and young adults.

Reservations are requested.

The Edgewater Public Library is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Port Orange Founder’s Day Ceremony @ Port Orange Historical Trust

port orange founders dayThe entire community is invited to attend the annual Founder’s Day Ceremony hosted by the Port Orange Historical Trust and the City of Port Orange.

At the ceremony, the Port Orange Trust will showcase the two original Florida East Coast Train Depot “Port Orange” signs donated several years ago by the Nimmo family.

Port Orange was founded on April 26, 1867 at 12 noon, when the U.S. Postal Service recognized Port Orange as a community.  Dr. John Milton Hawks and other Union Army officers selected this area as their base of operations for their Florida Land & Lumber Company.  Right after the end of the U.S. Civil War, some 1,500 freed slaves came to Port Orange to fulfill their dreams of freedom and a new life.

If you have old photographs and stories about Port Orange and its people, the Trust encourages you to attend.
