FishStock Inshore/Offshore Fishing Tournament, Boat Show and Expo @ Riverside Park

This year, we’ll be kicking off Beach Weeks in classic New Smyrna style with FishStock.  Join us for 4 days of fishing, food and music, including two separate tournaments; fishing seminars and clinics; boats; kids activities; and more.

More than 500 anglers and 200 boats will compete for over $100,000 cash and prizes in the NSB Striker Fish Tournament and Redfish/Trout Challenge, the largest inshore event in Florida. Offshore anglers compete for Wahoo, Dolphin & Kingfish in Ladies, Men and Junior divisions. The Inshore tournament also has Ladies, Men and Junior divisions competing for Redfish, Trout and most spots on a Redfish.

There will be educational workshops; the opportunity to shop for rods, reels, boats, motors and other items; and children will learn what’s under the water, how to tie knots and cast fishing rods. Enjoy food, drinks, music, fun and world-class angling with family and friends in one of the nation’s premiere saltwater locales.

Adult Computer Basics Class @ NSB Regional Library

computerAre you stuck in the 20th century? Get up to speed with free computer and e-reader classes at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library.

Email and attachments: Learn the basics of email, from getting a free address to composing messages and adding pictures and documents.

The classes will be in the library’s auditorium. Registration is not required.

The library is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

 

Canoe Mosquito Lagoon @ Visitors Information Center

turtle moundReservations will be accepted a week before the canoe date.  Join a guide as you explore this rich and diverse estuary up close.  some experience is preferred.  You must be at least 8 years old and able to paddle.  You must wear covered shoes (no sandals or flip-flops).  Bring water, sunscreen and a hat.  Dress to get wet.  Individuals with their own kayaks or canoes are welcome to join in.  Call to reserve your spot.  Meet at the Visitors Information Center at 9:45 AM.  We will leave promptly at 10:00 AM.

 

PLEASE NOTE: all programs are subject to cancellation and/or rescheduling due to staff limitations, weather conditions, or other factors. Some programs require reservations, a minimum age, or a cost-recovery fee.  Call 386-428-3384 ext. 0 for program information during operating hours (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), www.nps.gov/cana.  Entrance fees apply to all interpretive program participants.  All programs meet the requirements for the Canaveral National Seashore Junior Ranger program.

Summer wouldn’t be complete without soulful blues humming throughout the streets of New Smyrna Beach, and this year, we’re taking things to a whole new level. Prepare yourself for a 3-day, music-filled journey into one of America’s most celebrated and popular music genres. This much-anticipated new event will feature scores of bands playing at multiple locations around town.  Rich with history, tradition and diversity, the New Smyrna Beach Blues Festival will be the place to get your groove on this summer.

Salsa in the Park @ Christmas Park

salsa in the parkThe area around the NSB Waterfront LOOP’s Christmas Park will be transformed into a dance floor later this month. Free Latin dance lessons will be offered as part of Salsa in the Park.

Lessons will be offered on several Latin dance styles. The full schedule includes:

  • 6 – 6:45 p.m.: Salsa and zumba party
  • 7 – 7:30 p.m.: Salsa, merengue and cha-cha line dancing
  • 7:30 – 9 p.m.: Open dance to Latin music
  • 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.: A Taste of Salsa (food) contest

Christmas Park is on the corner of Canal and Live Oak streets in New Smyrna Beach.

The event is hosted by the City of New Smyrna Beach and is open to the public.

Lessons will be taught by a professional dance instructor.

Your Grey Matters 5K Run/Walk @ Coronado Civic Center

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m.

The entry is $20 for this 3.1-mile run/walk, which includes a raffle and silent auction.

Kite Festival @ Flagler Ave. Beach Access

Get ready for a high-flying weekend of colorful fun at the New Smyrna Beach Kite Festival. Located directly on the beach, just south of Flagler Avenue, this event is sure to provide real “fun-in-the-sun” for the whole family.

There will be professional kite demonstrations; friendly competitions; and free lessons and tips for novices, including free kite kits and decorating stations for the kids. Adults and children are also encouraged to bring their own kites.

Admission is free, but registration (on a walk-up basis, the day of the event) is required.

Thomas Jones Concert in the Park @ Christmas Park

food trucksFood truck foodies will have new menu options when a fleet of food trucks rolls into the LOOP’s Canal Street Historic District.

“These food trucks will bring new culinary options,” said Liz Yancey, New Smyrna Beach recreation and events manager. “We’ve sandwiched this event between the Art Stroll and the Gallery Walk. It will be a fun, busy day around Canal Street.”

Dishes will include flat bread, tacos, barbeque, fish, lobster, crab, Vietnamese cuisine, gelato, ice cream and more.

As many as 20 trucks are expected to participate.
