What better way to kick off a surf competition than a block party? Start shaking your maracas on Thursday, June 20th on Flagler Avenue in New Smyrna Beach. This long-standing community “block party” features live bands, food vendors, craft and art stands, surfing displays, surf pro meet-and-greets, a kids zone, and a “tween” zone.

Skate Camp @ NSB Skate Park
9:00 AM – Friday @ 12:00 PM

skateboardThis summer, local youth can learn to catch a rail at the New Smyrna Beach Summer Skate Camp. The camp offers skateboarding lessons, safety instruction and arts and crafts. Lunch also is provided.

Youth age 6-14 may attend. The cost is $105 for New Smyrna Beach residents and $110 for non-residents.

Registration is ongoing and can be completed at the New Smyrna Beach Recreation Department, 1000 Live Oak Street or online at  here.

 

WonderLand Summer Camp @ The Little Theatre

wonderlanThe Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach announces a series of WonderLand Summer Camps for Summer 2013.

A summer camp for 5 to 7 year olds:

“Come Imagine with Skippyjon Jones” This camp for the young child features the Skippyjon Jones books. Who can resist that lovable Siamese cat who imagines he is a Chihuahua? Students will participate in imagination games, story drama and crafts revolving around the Skippyjon Jones saga. On our final day we will have an imaginative showcase full of fun, cats, and Chihuahuas.

Parents and friends are invited to final shows.

Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required. Limited financial aid may be available.

Teen Extreme Art Camp @ Artists' Workshop

art is creationTeen Extreme is an art summer camp offered to teens in 6th-12th grade.  The camp offers art education in digital arts, painting with light, jewelry making, wood sculpting, 3-D additive sculpture, painting to music, clay, drawing and more.

Scholarships are available to those who qualify.

wonderlanThe Little Theatre of New Smyrna Beach announces a series of WonderLand Summer Camps for Summer 2013.

A summer camp for 13 to 15 year olds:

“ACT OUT!”  Students in this class will be able to concentrate on acting skills and techniques while doing a dramatic reading from a text, usually with little or no memorization involved. Unlike traditional theatre, the emphasis is on oral expression of the part and enables students to bring a text to life and together create a powerful interpretation. Costume suggestions, music and other props are encouraged but are not necessary.

 

Parents and friends are invited to final shows.

ACA Summer Camp @ ACA Harris House

8 weekly art camps for ages 6-12

Atlantic Center for the Arts’ Summer Art Camp is held at ACA’s Community Arts Center at Harris House, in our Yurick Studios. Each weekly session  features three classes designed to give participants an opportunity to explore ideas of art and culture through a variety of art forms.

Session 3:

  • The Amazon Rainforest with Shy Morris ACA Community Artist – Inspired by the wildlife of the rainforest, students will create flowers, vibrant fish and butterflies using all recycled materials.
  • Houses Around the World with Nicole Yatulis New Teacher – Kids will learn about different dwelling types from around the world. Using their imaginations they will create their own blueprints for a house using the cyanotype process.
  • African Drums with Yvette Hartley – Always a favorite, Miss Yvette gets them playing and swaying to the rhythm of the drums of Africa.

Canoe Mosquito Lagoon @ Visitors Information Center

turtle moundReservations will be accepted a week before the canoe date.  Join a guide as you explore this rich and diverse estuary up close.  some experience is preferred.  You must be at least 8 years old and able to paddle.  You must wear covered shoes (no sandals or flip-flops).  Bring water, sunscreen and a hat.  Dress to get wet.  Individuals with their own kayaks or canoes are welcome to join in.  Call to reserve your spot.  Meet at the Visitors Information Center at 9:45 AM.  We will leave promptly at 10:00 AM.

 

PLEASE NOTE: all programs are subject to cancellation and/or rescheduling due to staff limitations, weather conditions, or other factors. Some programs require reservations, a minimum age, or a cost-recovery fee.  Call 386-428-3384 ext. 0 for program information during operating hours (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), www.nps.gov/cana.  Entrance fees apply to all interpretive program participants.  All programs meet the requirements for the Canaveral National Seashore Junior Ranger program.
