1364159595_2Music lovers may enjoy a free concert by Vocalist/Keyboardist Mary Cuchetti from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, April 6, in the Canal Street Historic District’s Christmas Park. The park is on the corner of Live Oak and Canal streets in New Smyrna Beach. Bring a lawn chair.

“The Forgotten Marlins” Reading @ New Smyrna Beach Regional Library

marlinsRelive the days of the original Miami Marlins during a free presentation at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library.

Sam Zygner will share entertaining, but true, tales from his book, “The Forgotten Marlins: A tribute to the 1956-1960 Original Miami Marlins.”

Dick Bunker, who played with the Marlins in 1957 and 1956, also will attend.

The team has been called “one of the most colorful and flamboyant teams to ever play in baseball’s minor league.” During the five years they played in Miami Stadium, fans were treated to their first taste of high-level baseball with a team composed of battle-hardened veterans and fresh up-and-comers.

Zygner is the leader of the South Florida chapter of the Society of Baseball Research.

The library is open seven days a week at 1001 S. Dixie Freeway. Hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

“Tiger Shrimp Tango” Reading @ New Smyrna Beach Regional Library

Tiger-Shrimp-TangoBest-selling author Tim Dorsey will discuss his newest Serge Storms novel, “Tiger Shrimp Tango,”  at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library.

Dorsey writes in a style similar to that of Dave Barry and Carl Hiaasen, meaning there are plenty of laughs and shocks directed at Florida lifestyles, politics and personalities.

He will sign books after the discussion. Books will be available for purchase.

Reservations are not required. 

The library is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
