Pass the scones and pour the tea, we now proclaim tea parties at the Stetson Mansion.

Join us for a custom tour of the mansion followed by teatime in the school house.  Each month we will feature a new theme and special guest.  Our menu will feature delights from local Deland businesses.  Sweet scones, savory gourmet petite tea sandwiches and delicate desserts – all complimented by delicious herbal teas.

Tea reservations must be made in advance and prepaid.  Teas are non-refundable 72 hours prior to your reserved teatime.

Each Saturday, vendors take their place in front of Old Fort Park in the Canal Street Historic District. Local farmers offer fruit, vegetables, herbs, flowers, plants, juices, dairy, seafood and grass-fed meats.

Organic and pesticide-free produce are available. Quality handcrafted items and baked goods also are offered.

Learn about building, fishing, diving and monitoring the artificial reefs off the coast of Volusia County. The Volusia County Marine Science Center has partnered with the Halifax Sportfishing Club and Volusia County Reef Research Dive Team to host an Artificial Reef Seminar which is open to the public.

“The goal is to educate anyone who is interested about the county’s marine wildlife and artificial fishing reef system,” said County Coastal Division Director Joe Nolin. “The reef system is an economic engine for the regional marine industry and an amazing ecological resource.”

The seminar will cover the benefits, design and construction of artificial reefs; the basics of fishing artificial reefs including preparation, locating the reefs, and proper anchoring and fishing techniques; how to dive artificial reefs; and how to help monitor the growth and development of the reef over time.

An all-day community workshop on the North Causeway Plan will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 6, at the New Smyrna Beach Woman’s Club, 403 Magnolia Street. Pete Sechler, AECOM representative and author of the 2010 CRA Master Plan Update, will facilitate both discussions.

“We’re hoping to have a good turnout and see a lot of new faces at these meetings,” said Gail Henrikson, planning manager. “We want the community to be involved in the planning process. To make informed decisions, we need to hear the views and ideas from the community and not just a handful of people.”

Several elements from the current plan have been completed. These include reuse of the former high school site and redevelopment of the former Feger’s Seafood site.

 Our walk will start on the shores of the lagoon and continue to the sea, we’ll discuss all of the eco-systems.  This program is led by a University of Florida certified coastal naturalist and will conclude with a treasure hunt along the beach.  Please bring water & sunscreen. Meet at Visitor Center.

Explore the seashore with a digital camera.  We will compose the picture and learn about the natural history of the dunes/beach environment.  Bring sunscreen and water.  If you have a digital camera you can bring it, or use the center’s.  Meet at Visitor Center.
