Canoe Mosquito Lagoon @ Canveral Visitors Center

Reservations will begin a week before the canoe date.  Join a guide as you explore this rich and diverse estuary up close.  Some experience is preferred.  You must be at least 8 years old and able to paddle.

You must wear covered shoes (no sandals, flip-flops or Crocs.) Bring water, sunscreen and a hat. Dress to get wet.

Individuals with their own kayaks or canoes are welcome to join in.

 PLEASE NOTE: all programs are subject to cancellation and/or rescheduling due to staff limitations, weather conditions, or other factors. Some programs require reservations, a minimum age, or a cost-recovery fee.  Call 386-428-3384 ext. 0 for program information during operating hours (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), www.nps.gov/cana.  Entrance fees apply to all interpretive program participants.  All programs meet the requirements for the Canaveral National Seashore Junior Ranger program.

balloon and sky festPlan to see amazing Balloon Glows on Friday and Saturday evenings, with formation flying Aeroshell T-6 planes circling overhead and leading into the night air shows.
The 20 hot-air balloons are scheduled to carry passengers on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and the carnival, the 4-H Animal Encounter, and the inspiring Inspiration Village will keep visitors of all ages entertained, excited, and smiling.
Airplane, balloon and helicopter rides are always popular, and big crowds always enjoy the Sounds of Sky Fest – top musical and entertainment acts performing on the 80,000-watt stage.

 

Hot-Air Balloon passenger flights - Early-morning one-hour passenger flights are $230 per person. These rides include the traditional post-flight ceremony and a toast with your special souvenir champagne flute. A reservation list is now being maintained. It’s first-come, first-served, so call 386-957-FEST (3378).

Tethered hot-air balloon rides – Will be offered on Friday and Saturday evenings during the Balloon Glows, and for a time in the early morning hours on Saturday and Sunday (if winds allow). These rides last a few minutes as the balloons hover above the crowd, and the cost is just $10. Tickets will be available at the event.

Biplane rides – Climb into an open-cockpit vintage 1941 World War II trainer for a trip into yesteryear at a price per passenger of $80. Advance tickets can be purchased by calling 386-478-0600. Ask for “Fest Rides” tickets, or you can purchase them on-site at the Sky Fest RIDES booth.

Helicopter rides – Will be offered in THREE different aircraft:

1.     The Enstrom F-28 helicopter can take two passengers per flight, and tickets can be purchased right at the Sky Fest RIDES booth for just $30 per person.

2.     The legendary Huey can carry 10 passengers at a time on an open-door thrill ride for just $75 per person. Tickets available at the event.

3.     The Cobra Attack Helicopter carries one passenger at a time on the ultimate ride for $300 ($500 for a longer flight). Tickets available at the event. There’s nothing else like this!

Airplane rides – Will be available in the classic Cessna 172 for just $30 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the Sky Fest RIDES booth during the event.

Warbird rides – In a North American World War II AT-6 Texan trainer. Carries one passenger for a familiarization instruction flight where you get a chance to fly this high performance aircraft for just $320. For advance bookings, call 386-478-0600 and ask for “Fest Rides” tickets, or purchase them on-site at the Sky Fest RIDES booth.

Admission is only $10 for adults per day. Children under 12 get in free, and so do all veterans with ID. Parking is FREE!

Chamber Challenge 5K Run @ Historic Chamber Building

RaceFlyerThe gauntlet has been laid down… metaphorically speaking of course! The race will begin and end at the Historic Chamber building at 115 Canal Street in Downtown New Smyrna Beach. It’s course consists of 3.1 miles around Historic Canal Street and Riverside Drive on a Fast Flat USATF Certified 5k Course with official timing by Racesmith.

This will be one of the most fun and exciting road races run in Volusia County in 2013!  Why?  We expect up to 1,000 runners from all over Florida. The Chamber Cup and a Corporate Cup will be awarded to the top respective team and BRAGGING RIGHTS are definitely at stake here.  The custom designed Cups will be held by the winning teams for a year and then defended in next year’s race. There is no other race like this in Volusia County and we expect a lot of runners.

Registration is available online at www.register.racesmith.com. Cost is $25 for preregisters and $30 on the day of. 100% of the proceeds from this event are dedicated to the Southeast Volusia Building Fund to continue restorations of the 1933 Historic building.
