Horsin’ Around raises 15% of Atlantic Center’s operating budget, allowing them to provide arts-related programming to underserved youth, opportunities for working artists to create new work through our acclaimed residency programs, and educational lectures and performances for the greater Central Florida community, serving 50,000 yearly.

Explore Mosquito Lagoon @ Visitor Center

Explore Mosquito Lagoon with a digital camera.  We will compose the picture and learn about the natural history of the estuary environment.  Bring sunscreen and water.  If you have a digital camera you can bring it, or use the center’s.  Meet at Visitor Center.

PLEASE NOTE: all programs are subject to cancellation and/or rescheduling due to staff limitations, weather conditions, or other factors. Some programs require reservations, a minimum age, or a cost-recovery fee.  Call 386-428-3384 ext. 0 for program information during operating hours (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), www.nps.gov/cana.  Entrance fees apply to all interpretive program participants.  All programs meet the requirements for the Canaveral National Seashore Junior Ranger program.

Invasive Plants and Animals Lecture @ New Smyrna Beach Regional Library

Locals can expand their horizons with free programs at the New Smyrna Beach Regional Library.

Volusia County Extension Director David Griffis will give a presentation about the invasive plants and animals found in New Smyrna Beach.

Reservations are not required.

The library is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

NSB Food Festival

Food FestivalThe 4th annual New Smyrna Beach Food Festival will fill the beachside along Flagler Avenue. Diners may sample Volusia County restaurants and enjoy live entertainment along the Avenue.

Bird Rescue and Rehabilitation Lecture Series @ Marine Discovery Center

marine discovery centerVarious speakers will describe rescue, rehabilitation and the laws that should protect our birds but are often overlooked.  The Marine Discovery Center has long been involved in bird rescue by design and by default.  In an attempt to organize the many local volunteers who want to be involved, this lecture will offer some tips on bird rescue and what happens to them after that rescue.  At this lecture you can sign up to get involved with rescue, transport and rehabilitation of these birds.

Museum of History Membership Meeting @ NSB Museum of History

This is the last membership meeting before the museum’s Picnic in May.  Tootsie McDonald will be sharing about Relay for Life. The vote will also be held on this year’s Board of Directors.  Feel free to bring snacks.  There is no charge for this event.
