Florida Education Summit to be Webcast on Wednesday

Tampa, Fla. – On February 27, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. the Florida Council of 100; the Institute for a Competitive Workforce, an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; the National Chamber Foundation; the Florida Chamber of Commerce Foundation; and AT&T will be hosting a Florida Education Summit, “Breaking Through Mediocrity – Implementing the Common Core State Standards,” in Orlando.  National, state, and local business and education experts will convene to discuss issues facing Florida’s K-12 educational system and potential solutions that could further drive student achievement.

The agenda includes:

  • A welcome from Marshall Criser, III, Chairman, Florida Council of 100; President, AT&T Florida
  • A keynote address by Dr. Tony Bennett, Florida Commissioner of Education
  • Remarks by Tony Miller, Deputy Secretary, United States Department of Education, regarding the national perspective on K-12 education issues
  • A panel on Common Core State Standards moderated by Alberto Carvalho, Superintendent, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and featuring Robert Corcoran, President & Chairman, GE Foundation; Dr. William Schmidt, Distinguished Professor, Michigan State University; Jason Zimba, Co-Founder, Student Achievement Partners; and Kelli Wells, Program Director, U.S. Education, GE Foundation
