Health Management Bids for Bert Fish
The Executive Vice President of Health Management Associates, Pete Lawson, spoke at the Kiwanis Club of Southeast Volusia County meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, about the company’s proposal for Bert Fish Hospital. Lawson, a two time cancer survivor, understands the importance of local and personalized hospital care and explained their mission is to “grow the hospital so patients can be treated in New Smyrna Beach, not have to go to Orlando.” Health Management, a local hospital provider in Florida and 15 other states, is up against Halifax Health in the Bert Fish transaction.
They plan to lease the hospital and make a $40 million spending commitment, which will help to pay off the hospital’s debts and provide new services and better facilities.
The company’s focus is the local hospital and its surrounding community, ensuring that residents won’t have to leave for their health care. Lawson announced the capital spending commitment will pay off debt and allow the hospital to “start fresh” with upgrades to aesthetics, infrastructure, clinical equipment and provide new services and expand primary care.
Lawson will be speaking on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Edgewater City Council Chambers at 3 p.m. regarding the proposal. The public is encouraged to attend.
