Beach Weeks Proves to Boost Tourism
Beach Weeks and Southern Stone Events hosted their inaugural Sand Art Festival on Saturday, June 15 in front of the Flagler Avenue Boardwalk.
The community was encouraged to create a team or compete individually and enter the contest free of charge. All competitors created their own sand sculptures in 10′ X 10′ plots of cordoned beach.
Sculptors began digging into the sand at 9 a.m. and judging began after 2 p.m. World Champion Sand Sculptor Rich Varano was present to judge the competitors, along with Southern Stone Events coordinator Frank Demarchi and 103.3 WVYB Radio Host DJ Andre.
Sand art professionals were also present and featured magnificent sculptures, showing off one of our area’s most valued natural resources.
