NSB ‘Top Cop’ Awarded
Exemplary investigative skills have earned Police Officer Brian Morris the Officer of the Year award from the New Smyrna Beach Police Department. The six-year department veteran is credited with solving a rash of neighborhood burglaries and for disarming a robbery subject while keeping citizens out of harm’s way.
“Each year we recognize a few outstanding individuals for their exemplary performance and conduct,” said Michael Brouillette, Acting Chief of Police. “Officer Morris clearly demonstrates dedication to our community and acumen in law enforcement skills to earn the top award.”
Two other department employees were honored at the annual awards ceremony held on December 20, 2012. Lt. Donna LaVallee has been named Supervisor of the Year for her calm leadership and equitable treatment of employees. Civilian Employee of the Year, Quartermaster Diana Floyd, joined the agency last year and lead the evidence/property division through a transition to ensure proper compliance with the department’s standards.
Homer Spencer and Nancy Linn earned Volunteer of theYear awards for their selfless dedication as part of the Volunteer Program and will be honored posthumously. Their widowed spouses are expected to accept awards in their honor.
“We are proud of the accomplishments of these employees and of their service to New Smyrna Beach residents,” Brouillette said.
