No Shave November Raises Money for Men’s Health Issues
On Nov. 27, 2012, Red Dog Surf Shop hosted the 2nd Annual Mustache Charity Event at Off the Hook Raw Bar and Grill in New Smyrna Beach. The event included live music by the Waverley’s, a raffle with high-priced items such as Electric sunglasses and a new Merrick surf board and a custom made mustache seesaw was even set up outside for everyone to enjoy.
The Mustache Charity Event was originally inspired by the Movember Foundation, whose goal is to “raise vital awareness and funds for men’s health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.”
The auctioning off of a 30-year-old stache was the highlight of the night as patrons pulled out their wallets and teamed up to raise over $250 to see it hit the floor (pictured below).
According to their website, “Once registered at www.movember.com, men start November 1st clean shaven. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health. “
