Rotary Clubs Score Big with “Cheeseburger in Paradise”
New Smyrna Beach’s was the epicenter of a fun fund raising event called Cheeseburger in Paradise. Planned and organized by the Rotary clubs of New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater, it was a rocking Jimmy Buffet-styled summer time party enjoyed by over 500 residents of New Smyrna Beach and surrounding communities.
Rotary Club of New Smyrna Beach president, Tammy Owens (pictured above), noted “we can’t thank the community enough for coming out to support our cause. We had the mayor, the city manager and many other community leaders in attendance. Everyone was in great spirits and thoroughly enjoyed the burgers and sliders from the fourteen area restaurants who supported the event. I don’t think there was anyone who left Brannon Center without a smile on their face.”
One of the happy goers, Sonya Broome Mckenzie commented on the Cheeseburger in Paradise Event Facebook page “great turn out as always for our area. Had a wonderful time, food… drink… entertainment – all fabulous. And what a nice way to support high school scholarships.”
The emcee of the event and president of the Rotary Club of Edgewater, Peter Stanton (pictured above), who ran the hilarious crazy hat contest and dancing contest commented “everyone loved the energy of the Havana Daydreamers trio, the rum tasting and tequila tasting stations and of course the free beer and wine.” He continued “but more importantly, we are ecstatic in having great community sponsors and restaurants which provided top class burgers and sliders for everyone to enjoy.”
Clarence McCloud, Rotary member and the event’s door greeter stated “we scored big on Saturday. It was a win-win for the clubs and the community. As New Generations chair for the Rotary Club of New Smyrna Beach, I am proud of our clubs now having the funds to extend scholarships to our graduating high school seniors and we had so much fun doing it.”
