S.U.P. With Ya?
I recently had the opportunity to go on a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) eco-tour with the East Coast Paddle (E.C.P.) out of J.B.’s Fish Camp in New Smyrna Beach. It was an amazing 2 hour trip I won’t soon forget.
Stillness, in the most ecologically diverse saltwater estuary of the Southeast United States, prods the adventurer within. The E.C.P. guides are aglow as they extend helping hands from aboard their custom built paddle board tour boat. The salted creases of the guide’s faces form individualized treasure maps if properly viewed. Backed by over 100 years experience in these very waters, you can rest assure you are in safe hands.
Within minutes we arrived at our destination. After a brief instruction we embarked on our paddleboards. A touch timid off the bat, I quickly gained confidence in the equipment and myself, as the board’s stability is generous.
Time seems to tangle itself in the tide and wash away in the currents that sweep you along ancient paths. Accompanied by manatees, dolphins and countless other species, I found myself immersed in nature’s wonder. The peace and solitude was uninterrupted.
After a lifetime of intrigue, and absorbing information about our local waters, I was left in awe and totally inspired by the facts I received. I gained a better understanding of the vital role which our particular area plays. This unique experience opened my eyes to a larger view of the world.
