The Music Never Ends – A gift from Rick and Ann Martorano
My lovely wife Ann and I just finished a CD at Billy Chapin’s recording studio in Edgewater. This CD has 27 songs on it and took the summer to complete. Ann and I have countless hours in recording studios doing projects for friends and business relationships, but we have never done a compilation of songs together as entertainers. We are fortunate to have friends, family and fans who have supported us in our efforts to bring good music to our communities in all forms of musical expression: musical theater, supper clubs, concerts, television and radio, not to mention our relationships as leaders of Praise and Worship teams with Methodist churches.
When I got off the road in 1969 I lived in Maitland, Florida and worked in several clubs performing musicaly. In the early 70s I became involved with the early music program at Disney and by the mid 70s I began my graduate work. After completing all the appropriate courses I headed to Daytona Beach to write the dissertation for my Doctorate.
Ann and I met in the spring of 1979. I was working at Disney and directing The Sound of Music at the Daytona Beach Community Theater and Ann auditioned for a part. We started dating that spring and began to make music together a few months later.
After I completed the dissertation, it was my intention to return to California or possibly find a playing and teaching gig in Las Vegas. That never happened. Instead, Ann and I put a couple of show bands together, started doing club dates and concert dates in the local area, and convention dates throughout the state.
We served as Praise Music Worship Leaders in the early 90s beginning our service at Ormond Beach First United Methodist Church and completing our Christian music ministry at Coronado Community United Methodist Church in New Smyrna Beach.
Besides making music with me, Ann has a distinguished professional career as a health care Administrator at Halifax Health. She serves as Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Human Resources Officer and Administrator of Halifax Health Medical Center of Port Orange. She oversees two medical residencies and women’s and children’s services for the system, and is a Fellow in the American College of a Healthcare Executives.
She plans on retiring in the next couple of years and most likely I will retire with her. Our plans are to travel even more extensively then we have in our lives together.
My career has been in the music business. Performing, arranging and conducting, producing media productions and teaching as an adjunct professor at universities and community colleges. I have enjoyed ownership of private performing arts companies and schools, working with hundreds of young people and have served as musical director for over 30 dinner and community musical theater projects.
For many years Ann and I had a media production company producing radio and television commercials and mixed media productions. At one time collectively we had over 10 jingles running on regional radio at one time.
Our CD is our thanks to those of you who have been a part of our personal and professional lives. Our plans are to offer the CD to you, our fans, for free.
These tunes are signature songs for “Rick and Ann” including “Just You and I” which we sang at our wedding almost 30 years ago and “How Do You Keep the Music Playing” which we often perform to close our shows. You have heard us perform many of these songs over the years and now they are featured on our CD for your listening enjoyment.
Thanks for your kindheartedness over the years and your support.
