Ukrainian Easter Egg Demonstration

On Saturday, March 2, Jo Swindell hosted a Ukrainian Easter Egg Demonstration at The Hub on Canal Street.

Swindell has been decorating eggs since 1989, the first few years hand-painting with acrylics.  In 1994 she began studying pysanka, a Ukrainian Easter egg decorating technique using a wax-resist method, to create simple objects of great beauty.

The pysanky process involves building the final egg design by applying multiple layers of hot wax and dyes and requires several days to complete.

The finished eggs are protected with a light coat of lacquer and have been blown to eliminate any possibility of spoilage.
