The City of New Smyrna Beach Police Department will hold its monthly Citizen Volunteer Program recruitment meeting at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 21, at the New Smyrna Beach Police Department, located at 246 Industrial Park Blvd.

Sergeant Chris Roos from the New Smyrna Beach Police Department stated,“We’re continuing to build our pool to help us to manage our events and provided a social outlet for our volunteers.”

Each month, nearly a dozen events and activities attract residents and visitors to our community. The City is hoping these activities will draw the interest of people interested in lending a hand as event volunteers.

Program volunteers will receive specialized training by the City’s police department, Sergeant Roos said. Civilians will learn parking enforcement, crowd and traffic control and neighborhood patrol. In addition to special events assistance, volunteers also may receive training in records management and receptionists duties.

Uniforms and equipment will be provided.

No experience is necessary. However, volunteers may not have a criminal history.
