NSB Voted Best Florida Beach Town
For more than 22 years, Dr. Stephen Leatherman (aka “Dr. Beach”) has reviewed, evaluated and rated beaches and coastal areas throughout the world.
Since Florida’s coastal options are significant and typically featured prominently in Dr. Beach’s rankings, USA Today Travel writer, Laura Bly, recently asked Dr. Beach to select his 10 favorite Florida Beach Towns for those destinations that best combine sand, surf and a welcoming sense of community.
New Smyrna Beach made the list and will now wait to see if readers will push it to #1. As part of the competition, USA Today has asked its audience to pick their overall favorite by voting in their online poll or tweeting their selection using @usatodaytravel and #flabeachtown. Bly will then visit the winner and write a feature story on the area.
The town is the preferred destination of Central Floridians, who have numerous world-class coastal options available to them. Residents there have voted it, “Best Beach” in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012 in the Orlando Sentinel’s “Best Bets” Competition. New Smyrna Beach was also recognized as one of “The World’s Top 20 Surf Towns” by National Geographic Magazine in 2012.
The rest of Dr. Beach’s Top 10 included Clearwater Beach, Cocoa Beach, Delray Beach, Key West, Pensacola Beach, Sanibel Island, Seaside, Siesta Key and South Beach.
